Childsmile - Orkney

Childsmile is a national programme designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland and reduce inequalities both in health and access to dental services.

The programme consists of the following parts:

• Childsmile Toothbrushing. Supervised toothbrushing is offered in all nurseries and schools (at least P1 and P2) throughout Orkney. Dental packs are provided for children and babies.
• Childsmile Fluoride Varnish provides clinical prevention programme offering twice yearly application of fluoride varnish.
• Childsmile Community and Practice - provides child-centred NHS dental service through the Public Dental service providers and Independent General Dental Practices.
